Capitals: which city is the seat?
A place lights up on a map with no names — a country, a state, a region, a department — and four of its cities appear as dots. Click its capital. Sydney or Canberra? Toronto or Ottawa? Lyon or Valence?
How to play
- Look at the place in colour, and the four lettered cities.
- Click the capital, on the map or in the list.
- See the answer: the right city turns green.
The traps
Every city offered lies inside the place, so geography alone never gives the answer. The wrong answers are chosen to tempt you: the biggest city when it is not the capital, the seats of the place's own subdivisions (the sub-prefectures of a French department, the state capitals of a country), then its other large cities.
Play anywhere
Countries of the world or of a continent, or the states, regions, provinces, departments or counties of any country — every level where almost every place has a known capital or seat. Leave the choice open and it is drawn at random.
Where the capitals come from
Wikidata (CC0): the current capital or administrative seat of each place. See the credits.
