Map games

Every game on SlightlyMap is played on the map itself, by dragging and clicking. You never type a name: you find the place. Each game is free, needs no account and keeps nothing about you.

PuzzleDrag regions, states, departments and countries back to their place on a blank board. Five boards, from the 13 regions of France to the 237 countries of the world. City fingerprintA city is shown by its streets only: no names, no borders. Recognise its fingerprint and drop it where it belongs. Four sets, from 73 French cities to 1,069 European ones. Explore and compareNot a game, but the playground behind them: zoom to any street, switch on historical borders, select places and compare their area and population.

How scoring works

Each piece starts at 1,000 points and slowly loses value while you search, down to half after two minutes. Clues appear on their own as time passes, and each clue makes the piece worth a little less. A wrong drop costs 5 %. You can stop whenever you like: your score is the total of the pieces you placed, and your average per piece tells you how well you really know the map.

Why no typing?

Typing tests spelling, not geography. A name has many spellings and many languages; a place has only one position. Dragging a shape to where it belongs works the same in every language, on a phone as on a computer, and it trains the memory that matters: where things are, how big they are, what lies next to them.
