SlightlyMap

Date: which year is this map?

An old map of the world appears, every state and people in its own colour, with no names. Slide to the year you think it shows: the Roman Empire at its height, the Mongols, the colonial empires, the Cold War.

How to play

  1. Look at the borders: which empires exist, which have not yet appeared, which have vanished.
  2. Slide to your year and check. Need help? Show the names, for 30 % of the points.
  3. See the answer: the true year, and the map with its names.

Periods

Modern times (1492–1960), the Middle Ages (500–1400), Antiquity (3000 BC – AD 400), or all of history at once.

Scoring

1,000 points for the right year, then fewer and fewer as you move away, in proportion to the period: thirty years off is a small miss for Antiquity, a big one for modern times.
